What is the human being?
Islamic Research Lab is an independent research organization studying science, human nature, and the Islamic intellectual tradition. We pursue this single question with the seriousness it demands — across the sciences, philosophy, and classical and modern Islamic thought.

The Human Being Project
Our flagship program brings the Lab’s disciplines to bear on one integrated inquiry into what the human being is — reading the empirical sciences of mind and body alongside philosophical analysis and the Islamic intellectual tradition’s long reflection on the soul, the intellect, and the person.
Method
How we work
Islamic Research Lab brings the Islamic intellectual tradition, empirical science, and philosophical reasoning into serious dialogue.
We do not assume that revelation must confirm current scientific theories, nor that science must conform to theological conclusions. Each mode of inquiry is held to its own standards. Where they meet, we are interested in the real tensions and genuine convergences — not in forced harmonization.
This means taking the best contemporary science seriously as science, reading the tradition carefully on its own terms, and using philosophy to clarify what is actually being claimed on each side. The aim is understanding, not apologetics.
